ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A second storm of the week added more snow on top of the 3½ still on the ground.
At 8:30 a.m., I measured an additional ¾ inch. Compared against yesterday’s forecasts, this storm underperformed a little. I was hearing 1-2 inches. Alexandria schools even canceled Saturday activities.
That’s 8½ inches for the season so far, more than halfway to the “average” of 15 inches.

Don’t hate winter, use it
While it’s been suggested that “wind blasted frozen hellscape” is no way to live, I find lots of joys in winter activities. In particular, I enjoy skiing and broomball.

In late winter, the spring season of District Broomball will return.
Can’t get enough winter sports?
Come out and play broomball! It’s like hockey without skates, played on a full rink.
The next season starts February 27 and will run on Tuesday nights into April.+l k
In addition to league play, I’m hoping the ongoing cold is enough for the C&O Canal to freeze over in parts. I don’t think it’s going to be cold enough any time soon, despite subfreezing temperatures for over a week.
