ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Did a plow truck wake you up at ten minutes to 2 this morning or was I just a lucky one? Nevertheless, I’m excited for our first measurable snow of the season.

10 p.m. measurement

The final measurement from Yardy for today – 7 3⁄4 inches. The backend of the storm gave us another inch and a half. This is the highest accumulation since the “Alexandria Mayor Stuck in Spain Storm” dumped 10 inches on us in 2022.

Schools and the federal government are closed again Tuesday.

The street was covered again when I woke up at 6¼ inches. It snowed for a good part of the morning, though lightly towards late morning. There may be some compaction.

And of course, as is tradition, I grilled in the first snow of the year:

Here in the West End, Seminary Valley, I measured 5¼ inches so far. More is expected throughout the day and I will update in the early afternoon.

I’m hoping to get on the slopes some time soon.

In late winter, the spring season of District Broomball will return.

Can’t get enough winter sports?

Come out and play broomball! It’s like hockey without skates, played on a full rink.

The next season starts February 27 and will run on Tuesday nights into April.+l k

In addition to league play, I’m hoping the ongoing cold is enough for the C&O Canal to freeze over in parts. Sunday, January 21 might be the day for some pick-up broomball on the canal
