ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The snow or snowcrete that covered the ground for three weeks finally melted last week. The bare ground was short-lived.

The Nor’easter that is pummeling New Jersey (News 12) was much less severe here. After rain most of the day, the transition to snow began around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Since the air and ground was warm, it did not really start accumulating until after dark.

This morning, Yardy measured 2½ inches in my West End backyard. More surely fell, but it took quite a while for the surface temperatures to cool down enough.

The next potential for winter precipitation looks to be Monday, March 2. In between, we’ll have a few days in the high 50s.

This the 4th measurable snow storm of the season. A total of 15½ inches has been recorded so far.

While it’s been suggested that “wind blasted frozen hellscape” is no way to live, I find lots of joys in winter activities. In particular, I enjoy skiing and broomball. Earlier this season, I even got to play broomball on Holmes Run.

I’m hoping to get on the slopes some time soon.

In late winter, the spring season of District Broomball will return.

Can’t get enough winter sports?

Come out and play broomball! It’s like hockey without skates, played on a full rink.
